## Where you are

[### I'm preparing for promotion

](https://fa.hms.harvard.edu/part-3-developing-your-career/#promotion)**Advancing your career.** Most faculty come to us first for promotion. Start with the Faculty of Medicine Handbook for the rules, the CV Guidelines and CV Generator for your materials, and the Promotion Profile Library for successful examples. Your Annual Career Conference — held with your department — is where the process begins. When you've worked through these resources and still face a significant question or challenge, a one-on-one consultation is available.

## Flagship programs

### Eleanor & Miles Shore Faculty Development Awards

Funding · early-career faculty

Our signature funding program: protected time and salary support for Instructors and Assistant Professors pursuing a mentored academic project. One annual application, managed by OFA, opens the awards of dozens of sponsoring departments and institutions — you apply once to be considered across many. Applications typically open in January, with awards announced in spring. Best for faculty in the first years of their appointment who need dedicated time to establish an independent body of work.

### HMS/HSDM Leadership Development Course for Physicians and Scientists

Leadership · application-based

A competitive, three-day in-person course building the skills faculty need to lead — strategy, negotiation, team-building, giving feedback, and navigating your own advancement — taught by HMS leaders and faculty peers. Offered annually; tuition is $950. Consideration is application-based, with selection determined by the course's eligibility criteria. Designed for faculty ready to take on formal or informal leadership roles, from running a lab or program to chairing a committee.
